October 4, 2004: Noted  musician, teacher, author & composer Prof Mysore Sri V Ramarathnam, who was awarded the Swaramurthy V N Rao Memorial award. With him was violinist Lalgudi G Jayaraman was conferred the first Veena SeshannaMemorial award. The awards were presented by Governor of Karnataka T N Chaturvedi at an August function on Sunday

Presenting the awards, instituted by Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala templeVeerendra Heggade, the Governor recalled the contributions of Mysore and the royal family of Mysore towards the field of music. “Music, art and literature are an expression of man’s emotions and their beauty is unlimited. They are not bound by boundaries or language,” said Mr Chaturvedi.
